I ran into this new article posted on Sostav.ru about AvtoVaz attempting to use corwdsourcing to name its new LADA model. I must say it is a great way to go about naming, plus I’m a crowdsourcing fan. However, AvtoVaz is not doing it right. So they attract the crowd by offering a brand new car to the winner of the competition and a trip to the plant. However, they still include a clause that allows them to back out of it, and name the car however their majesty desires. That clause in itself defeats the purpose. I mean, stick to your words and your promise!
What is funny to watch, however, is sheer Russian public’s disgust with the vehicle and the abundance of funny, derogatory names they are able to come up with. Now, granted you need to speak Russian to see humor in these, here are some funny examples: Lada Vedrover, Lada BenLaden, Lada MedVeput, Lada Dura, Lada Nenado, Lada Budla etc.
Some go as far as creating a Tag Line for the brand, here is an example of one of the bloggers:
“Lada. Your very last car!”
“Buy Lada and get a tool kit for free!”
“Lada. 1000 kilometers with no major repairs!”
“Lada. You will not get bored with me!”
